The Trás-os-Montes region is filled with a very rich community lifestyle which persists to this day. This is the result of various noble and popular origins blended with quite an uncommon objective, where everyone cares about everyone else, and where everyone seeks to strengthen everyone else's happiness.
The spirit that reigns is not very ostentatious: the land is dark and fertil; dark are the clothes that cover it, dotted with white blankets of cold snow which invites people to get cosy and which, at higher elevations, paint a picture of whiteness. In the many places where the summers unravel polychromed marks heather, genistas and shrubs.
And if the environment persists with a cane flute that echoes in the mountainsides, the sound heard all year round is that of bagpipes which solemnly resounds, thus shaking the tranquillity of the plateaux.
Sometimes, in the north-east, the flowers that blossom from almond-trees are like snow. On other occasions, the trees are filled with brown.
